It was the first day of a photography trip and I was beginning the process of familiarizing myself with the area as I scouted for potential photographic opportunities. We were told by the locals that Meyers Creek beach was one of the best beaches anywhere in the U.S. to find sand dollars. My wife is a beachcomber and loves to collect interesting shells, small pieces of driftwood, rocks and of course, sand dollars. We have more than a few from our first Oregon trip back in the early 90’s. We found a few this day but what stole the show was the discovery of wild Douglas Iris growing along the shoreline. The flowers were at their peak in color and the overcast skies gave them a softness that made them irresistible.
